To further demonstrate his love and appreciation, Los Angeles Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen surprised his wife, Gianni, with a Polaris Slingshot for Mother’s Day. Jansen arranged for the black and blue open-air roadster to be delivered to the couple’s home over the weekend.

Prior to Gianni being summoned outside to see her surprise, Jansen took a moment to circle the car for an up-close look. Although a gift for his wife, Jansen ensured his 6’5″ frame could also fit in the driver’s seat.

“This is an awesome ride. I’ve always loved this ride. I wanted to give her this. I think it’s a beautiful ride, she’s going to enjoy it. It’s awesome,” Jansen said.

He called for Gianni, who stopped at the top of stairs and stared down at her new car in amazement. “Oh my God!” she screamed. “Are you kidding me?”

Gianni gave birth to their second child this past year. She and Jansen shared an emotional embrace at the bottom of the stairs before hopping into the Slingshot.

“You’ve got to appreciate every mom in the world. It’s not easy for a woman to carry your baby for nine months. You always have to be appreciative of what you’ve got,” Jansen said.

“Every new day that starts, just love her and take care of her. Life is short. You’ve just got to enjoy it. Every time I have an opportunity to give her a present, I always want to surprise her with something nice.

“It doesn’t always have to be material, but I think this one was the right thing to do in the right time.”

Gianni was thankful for the surprise Jansen provided and also made certain to recognize the way he values her. “I’m shocked. I’m still in shock. This is amazing,” Gianni said. “It’s an awesome car, but most of all, I truly appreciate how Kenley appreciates me. I’m so, so thankful I have this amazing husband.”

As is often the case in a marriage, there figures to be some give and take with the Polaris. Gianni initially allowed for the possibility of Jansen driving the car to Dodger Stadium, but then had a better thought.

“Let me drop you off at the stadium. How about that?” she said with a smile.
