Mookie Betts, Will Smith, Freddie Freeman, Teoscar Hernández and Tyler Glasnow were named Los Angeles Dodgers All-Stars for 2024, joining Shohei Ohtani who was voted the starting designated hitter for the National League team.
All-Star Game reserves and pitchers were announced Sunday afternoon as the Dodgers were finishing their homestand against the Milwaukee Brewers. That ended in disappointment as the Brewers ran away with a 9-2 win to prevent the Dodgers from sweeping.
As players gathered in the home clubhouse at Dodger Stadium, manager Dave Roberts addressed the team to reveal which players were bound for Globe Life Field during MLB All-Star Week 2024.
“Obviously a special honor, many people have had this honor, many people have had it multiple times. Truly special. The best of the best. Midsummer Classic,” Roberts said. “Your families get to enjoy it and you get to be recognized as one of the best players in the world.”

Betts earned an eighth career All-Star selection, which have been split evenly between the Boston Red Sox and Dodgers. He’s not going to take the field this year due to his ongoing recovery from a left hand fracture.
Freeman also was named to an All-Star Game for the eighth time in his career. Freeman has been selected in all three seasons with the Dodgers and four in a row.
Glasnow is a first-time All-Star and it’s all the more memorable with it coming for his hometown Dodgers.
Hernández is headed to the Midsummer Classic for a second time and nearly did so as a starter in the National League outfield. Hernández was third in voting when Phase 2 opened but wound up being passed by San Diego Padres’ Fernando Tatis Jr.
Ohtani being voted an All-Star starter was a virtual guarantee, but this is his first with the Dodgers.
Smith has now earned two consecutive selections, with each coming as a reserve despite his ascension to one of the best catchers in baseball.
Dodgers All-Stars history
This is the third time since 2017 the Dodgers have six All-Stars. They arguably could have earned a seventh selection if not for Gavin Stone being an All-Star Game snub.
As it stands, the Dodgers’ six All-Star selections are second-most among all teams. The Philadelphia Phillies led all clubs with seven All-Stars.
