The Texas Rangers defeated the Arizona Diamondbacks to capture their first World Series title in franchise history, and they were led by contributions from several players with ties to the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Corey Seager, who spent the first seven seasons of his career with the Dodgers, was named the 2023 World Series MVP after hitting .286/.375/.762 with three home runs and six RBI in five games.
Nathan Eovaldi earned the win and Josh Sborz recorded his first career save in the decisive Game 5. Max Scherzer and Andrew Heaney also combined to throw 8.2 innings of one-run ball in this year’s Fall Classic.
During an appearance on the “Roggin And Rodney” show, Walker Buehler explained that he had mixed emotions watching his former Dodgers teammates win a World Series with the Rangers:
“I obviously saw all the highlights all over the place. I watched some of it. It’s hard, man. I think any baseball player will tell you when you’re team is not in it, it’s hard to kind of watch. But I’ve got a couple buddies over there in Texas. Josh Sborz getting the last out was cool. He was in my wedding, so I’m obviously happy for him. And obviously Corey, Heaney, and all the guys that we played with that are over there. You’re happy for them but you also are envious, jealous, mad and upset. I didn’t even play. You’ve got all this emotion going through you, so it’s kind of hard to watch them at times but obviously you shoot them a text to congratulate them and whatnot.”
Buehler previously said he was happy to see Sborz finding success with the Rangers after not generating much traction in parts of two seasons in L.A.
As for Seager, he joined Hall of Famers Sandy Koufax, Bob Gibson and Reggie Jackson as the only players in MLB history to win a World Series MVP multiple times.
Seager previously accomplished the feat with the Dodgers when he was named 2020 World Series MVP. Seager is the only player in MLB history to win World Series MVP in both leagues.
Walker Buehler laments not being able to help Dodgers
Buehler admitted it was hard to watch the Dodgers in the playoffs this year knowing he could not help his teammates win games.
Buehler attempted a late-season comeback by making one start with Triple-A Oklahoma City as part of a rehab assignment before announcing his focus had shifted to getting healthy for 2024.
