The Los Angeles Dodgers nabbed one of the top starting pitchers on the trade market in Tyler Glasnow by acquiring him from the Tampa Bay Rays.
Trading Ryan Pepiot and Jonny DeLuca meant the Dodgers would be mortgaging a fair amount of team control in the pair of young players. But the return of Glasnow gave them a pitcher with the upside to lead their staff, along with adding Manuel Margot to potentially platoon with Jason Heyward.
Glasnow signed a five-year contract extension worth $135 million as part of the trade to keep him under team control at least through the 2027 season. The Dodgers have a team option for 2028 that becomes a player option if they decline it.
Unlike Shohei Ohtani’s contract where the Dodgers made an exception to give a no-trade clause, Glasnow didn’t get one in his contract, per Fabian Ardaya of The Athletic.

Glasnow’s extension additionally does not have any deferred money with the Dodgers paying the $25 million he was set to earn in 2024 per his existing contract with the Rays. However, $10 million of that was converted into a signing bonus.
From 2025-2027, Glasnow will receive $30 million each season and that is also the value of his club option in 2028. If declined, Glasnow will have a player option worth $20 million.
Glasnow is capable of putting up some of the most prolific strikeout numbers and will bring an element to the pitching staff that was sorely missed in 2023, which also played into the Dodgers’ stumbling finish.
Tyler Glasnow grew up watching the Dodgers
Glasnow joining the Dodgers is a full-circle moment, as the right-hander attended games growing up. The Santa Clarita native would make the drive to Dodger Stadium, and now following the trade, opens the next chapter of his baseball career with a homecoming.
Joining the Dodgers to be closer to home was a huge part of the appeal in signing an extension. Glasnow’s deal was the final piece to making the trade with the Rays happen.
