The Los Angeles Dodgers are back home after clinching the 2023 National League West title and sweeping the Seattle Mariners to face another American League opponent in the Detroit Tigers who are out of the postseason picture but riding a four-game winning streak.

Lance Lynn is on the mound Monday night as he looks to build on an encouraging outing against the San Diego Padres. His strikeout numbers remained down and the Padres made a good amount of hard contact, but Lynn held them to just two runs over seven innings in the quality start.

Since being traded to the Dodgers, Lynn is 5-2 with a 4.60 ERA and 1.26 WHIP in eight starts. He’s allowed an MLB-worst 41 home runs this season, including at least one in his last four outings.

The Tigers counter with Eduardo Rodriguez, who figures to face a hostile environment at Dodger Stadium due to blocking a trade to the Dodgers at the deadline this season.

Rodriguez figured to be a key piece for a starting rotation that had been decimated by injuries, but he declined to waive a limited no-trade clause. The Dodgers were among 10 teams on Rodriguez’s no-trade list.

Coincidentally, Lynn also had the right to veto a trade to the Dodgers but did not do so in order to join the team from the Chicago White Sox.

Rodriguez cited family reasons for remaining with the Tigers, but his agent reportedly also sought a contract extension in exchange for waiving the no-trade clause.

Mookie Betts, Freddie Freeman and all regulars are back in the Dodgers lineup one night after being given a game off following the team clinching the National League West.

Meanwhile, the Dodgers see former teammate Zach McKinstry, who was traded to the Chicago Cubs in 2022.
