Teoscar Hernández was named National League Player of the Week for the period of June 3-9. New York Yankees’ Aaron Judge was named American League Player of the Week.

Hernández joins Shohei Ohtani as fLos Angeles Dodgers to earn the honor this season. Mookie Betts was named NL Player of the Month after his blistering start to the 2024 season.

It’s the second time Hernández has earned Player of the Week recognition in his career, with the first coming during the 2021 season as a member of the Toronto Blue Jays.

He hit .360/.429/.960 with three doubles, four home runs and 10 RBI over six games last week. Hernández tied a career high with six RBI in the Dodgers’ win against the Yankees on Saturday.

Hernández tied for the Major League lead in home runs, extra-base hits (seven) and total bases (24) during the period he was recognized for. Also during that span the 31-year-old led the NL in RBI and slugging percentage, tied for the NL lead in runs scored, and ranked second in on-base plus slugging (1.389).

Hernández produced four consecutive multi-hit games from Thursday through Sunday. It was the fifth time in his career that Hernández had four multi-hit games in a row. The first four occurrences all came in 2021.

Although much of the talk heading into the highly-anticipated series between the Dodgers and Yankees centered around the five former MVP winners, Hernández stole the spotlight in the “Battle in the Bronx.”

Hernández became the first player with three home runs and nine RBI in a series against the Yankees since 2019. The last player who had accomplished the feat was Mookie Betts when he was with the Boston Red Sox.

Teoscar Hernández helps Dodgers make MLB history

Teoscar Hernández hit two home runs on Saturday, including a grand slam, and Kiké Hernández added a solo shot, which amounted to combining to make MLB history.

It represented the first time two players named Hernández hit a home run in the same game.

The grand slam was Teoscar Hernández’s fifth of his career and second this season. It was also the 18th multi-homer game of his career, of which Hernández has two this season as well.
