The Los Angeles Dodgers jumped ahead early and received strong pitching performances from Julio Urias and David Price in an 8-0 win over the Chicago White Sox.
Urias was dominant and efficient throughout his start. He set the tone with needing just four pitches to retire the White Sox in order in the first inning. He remained perfect in the second and third innings, and only threw 26 pitches.
Urias’ efficiency allowed him to remain in the game one inning longer than expected due to only throwing 12 pitches in the first two frames.
Urias was followed by Price in his 2021 debut. The veteran left-hander struck out one as he worked a perfect fourth inning. Price appearing out of the bullpen could be a precursor for the regular season.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Price is open to contributing in any role asked of him and beginning in the bullpen could make most sense for all involved.
Urias and Price had a comfortable 6-0 lead to work with thanks to the Dodgers scoring three runs in each of the first innings. After singles by Corey Seager and Justin Turner, AJ Pollock’s RBI base hit gave the Dodgers a 1-0 lead.
Matt Beaty later blooped a two-run single into shallow left field before the White Sox could get through the first inning. Beaty’s hit also knocked White Sox starter Mike Wright out of the game.
Zack Burdi took over for Chicago in the second inning and immediately found himself in trouble after walking DJ Peters and Mookie Betts. That prompted a mound visit, but improvement did not immediately follow.
Seager sat on a first-pitch fastball that he crushed for a three-run homer to center field. The home run was Seager’s first of the spring and the Dodgers’ sixth overall.
Sheldon Neuse and Jacob Amaya padded the Dodgers’ lead with an RBI single each in the bottom of the sixth. The hit was Amaya’s first of the spring.
The White Sox didn’t collect their first hit of the game until a two-out double off Enny Romero in the fifth inning.
