The Los Angeles Dodgers rallied late to earn a second consecutive win in Cactus League play and now continue their 2023 Spring Training schedule with a home matchup against the Cincinnati Reds.
Julio Urías makes his first start of the spring after an excellent 2022 campaign that saw him go 17-7 with a 2.16 ERA, 3.71 FIP, 0.96 WHIP and 166 strikeouts in 175 innings over 31 starts.
The left-hander led the National League in ERA and ERA+ (194), and held opponents to a .199 batting average en route to a third-place finish in Cy Young Award voting. Noah Syndergaard is scheduled to follow Urías and throw two innings in what will mark his Dodgers debut.
The Reds counter with Nick Lodolo, who also makes his 2023 debut after a solid rookie campaign. The southpaw went 4-7 with a 3.66 ERA, 3.90 FIP, 1.25 WHIP and 11.4 strikeouts per nine in 103.1 innings pitched (19 starts) last season.
Freddie Freeman, J.D. Martinez and Max Muncy are among the regulars in the Dodgers lineup against the Reds. David Peralta is also starting for a third time in four games as he continues to prepare for the 2023 World Baseball Classic.
Meanwhile, Miguel Rojas gets the start at shortstop in the wake of Gavin Lux suffering a torn ACL in his right knee that will likely sideline him for the entire 2023 season.
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said Rojas is on track to receive the majority of starts at shortstop, with Chris Taylor spending more time than initially anticipated.
