The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres meet Saturday for the first of two Spring Training meetings this year. The matchup at Camelback Ranch will be shortened to seven innings and is largely devoid of Padres regulars.
That’s somewhat of a disappointment for Trevor Bauer, who has said he is looking forward to improving his success rate against Manny Machado. Bauer instead settles for seeing the likes of Jurickson Profar and Tommy Pham at the top of the Padres’ lineup.
The right-hander is looking to stretch out to three innings or 45 pitches on Sunday. Bauer went two scoreless in his Dodgers debut and came away relatively pleased with the outing.
Tony Gonsolin, Corey Knebel, Scott Alexander and Michael Grove are also scheduled to appear during the seven-inning game.
The Padres counter with Chris Paddack in what’s also his second Cactus League start this year. Like Bauer, Paddack went two scoreless innings his first time out. The 25-year-old struggled in two starts against the Dodgers last season, allowing a combined nine earned runs on 11 hits (including four homers) in nine innings.
Paddack faces a Dodgers lineup that has AJ Pollock leading off and also features expected starter Justin Turner. For Turner it’s his first time appearing in consecutive games, which comes one day after Mookie Betts and Corey Seager did the same.
