On the morning after their World Series-clinching victory against the Tampa Bay Rays, the Los Angeles Dodgers saw seven players reach free agency.
Among those no longer under contract are Pedro Baez, Kiké Hernandez, Jake McGee, Joc Pederson, Justin Turner, Blake Treinen and Alex Wood. An eighth member was added to the group last week when the Dodgers declined their club option on Jimmy Nelson for the 2021 season.
Meanwhile, free agency has also gotten underway for 422 Minor League players. Of the contingent, 13 spent the past season in the Dodgers organization.
Below is a complete list of the Dodgers’ Minor League free agent class, via Matt Eddy of Baseball America:
Rocky Gale, Anthony Garcia, Terrance Gore, Reymin Guduan, Connor Joe, Matt Lipka, Kyle Lobstein, Zach McAllister, Gersel Pitre, Edubray Ramos, Luis Vasquez, Anthony Vizcaya, Jared Walker
Of the Dodgers’ Minor League free agents, Rocky Gale, Terrance Gore, Connor Joe, Kyle Lobstein, Zach McAllister and Edubray Ramos have Major League experience.
Gale appeared in a combined eight games for the Dodgers during the 2018-19 seasons, but did not receive any playing time this year.
Gore was recently outrighted to Triple-A Oklahoma City to clear a spot on the 40-man roster, but evidently rejected the assignment. He cracked the Dodgers’ Opening Day roster this year but only appeared in two games.
Gore went on to be included on both the Dodgers’ Wild Card Series and National League Division Series rosters, but did not get into a game.
Joe made his Major League debut with the San Francisco Giants in 2019, but was ultimately designated by assignment and returned to the Dodgers as part of the stipulation of being selected by the Cincinnati Reds in the 2018 Rule 5 Draft.
Joe was diagnosed with testicular cancer this past March. He underwent surgery shortly after and has since been deemed cancer free.
Lobstein last appeared in a Major League game for the Pittsburgh Pirates in 2016. McAllister looks to return to the level after last pitching for the Detroit Tigers in 2018. Ramos saw time with the Philadelphia Phillies in 2016-19, pitching to a 3.71 ERA over 173 games.
Dodgers free agents not among six players extended qualifying offer
Six players across MLB were extended a qualifying offer before Sunday’s deadline: the Cincinnati Reds’ Trevor Bauer, the San Francisco Giants’ Kevin Gausman, the New York Yankees’ DJ LeMahieu, the Philadelphia Phillies’ JT Realmuto, the Houston Astros’ George Springer and the New York Mets’ Marcus Stroman.
From the Dodgers’ perspective, only Pederson appeared to have any sort of a chance to be extended the qualifying offer. Turner would have been an easy choice but he was extended a qualifying offer in 2016 and changes to the procedure forbid a player from receiving it more than once.
The six players who were extended a qualifying offer have until Nov. 11 to decide on accepting or rejecting it.
