Yasiel Puig hit his first home run of the season, fulfilling a Mother’s Day wish, but the Los Angeles Dodgers suffered a 5-3 loss to the Cincinnati Reds and were swept in the four-game series at Dodger Stadium.

Despite entering the start with a 6.47 ERA in eight starts this season, Luis Castillo largely stifled the Dodgers. He allowed three runs on four hits, and collected eight strikeouts without issuing a walk over six innings.

Castillo settled in after allowing the home run to Puig in the third inning before surrendering a leadoff homer to Yasmani Grandal in the bottom of the seventh. Cody Bellinger followed with a single and later scored on a groundout, which was the final run charged to Castillo.

Like they did in each of the previous three games, the Reds were first to score. Immediately after Matt Kemp made a terrific diving catch, Eugenio Suarez hit one well out of his reach for a two-run home run.

A pair of singles and Alex Bandino’s sacrifice bunt led to another run, which extended the Reds’ lead to 3-1. Rich Hill was removed with two outs in the sixth inning after being checked on by Dodgers manager Dave Roberts and a trainer.

Hill was seen looking at his left finger, which previously had inflammation and an infection due to a cracked fingernail. Pat Venditte allowed a two-run home run to Joey Votto that wound up proving the difference for the Reds as the Dodgers made their comeback attempt in the late innings.
