Julio Urias didn’t turn in his sharpest performance but the Los Angeles Dodgers offense continued it’s recent stretch of production to defeat the Arizona Diamondbacks, 5-3, and extend their winning streak to six games.
Despite his velocity being down from season averages, Urias held the Diamondbacks without a hit until Christian Walker’s single put two on with one out in the fourth inning. A force out left runners at the corners, but Josh Rojas stole second base, and Henry Ramos put the Diamondbacks ahead with a two-run single.
That was all Urias allowed on the night but he only got through five innings.
Offensively, the Dodgers were largely carried by Justin Turner, Will Smith and Gavin Lux.
Turner’s single in the second inning started a rally as it was followed by Smith drawing a walk and Bellinger loading the bases with his liner into right field. Lux then ambushed the first pitch he saw from Merrill Kelly to tie the game with an RBI base hit.
A leadoff single by Turner and Smith’s double then set the table again for the Dodgers in the bottom of the fourth. Bellinger’s productive out pulled the Dodgers even, and Lux again attacked the first pitch for an RBI base hit.
Mookie Betts nearly contributed a two-out RBI double but was robbed by Ramos making a leaping catch at the wall in left field to end the inning.
Max Muncy wound up providing some breathing room behind a leadoff home run in the bottom of the fifth. It was an encouraging sign considering Muncy was slow to get up and walked with a limp after sliding into second on a stolen base attempt earlier in the game.
Trea Turner’s speed then helped the Dodgers manufacture a run in the sixth as he beat out chopper to second base, allowing Matt Beaty to score.
Phil Bickford surrendered a solo home run to Christian Walker in the sixth inning but the Dodgers bullpen otherwise kept the Diamondbacks off the board.
L.A. closed out their homestand 6-0 and now embark on their final road trip of the season, which will span nine games across series with the Cincinnati Reds, Colorado Rockies and Diamondbacks.
Dodgers clinch home-field advantage for Wild Card
Should the Dodgers fall short of winning a ninth consecutive National League West title, they will be guaranteed home-field advantage for the Wild Card Game. The accomplishment came one night after L.A. secured a ninth consecutive postseason berth.
