The Los Angeles Dodgers suffered a disappointing loss Thursday afternoon to close out their series against the Chicago Cubs, giving up 10 runs from the sixth inning on to fall, 11-5.
They look to turn the page now as they welcome National League West foe Colorado Rockies to town, with left-handers Rich Hill and Tyler Anderson squaring off in the series opener.
Hill has made eight starts so far this season, going 1-2 with a 5.30 ERA, 5.59 FIP and 1.51 WHIP with 36 strikeouts and 16 walks in 35.2 innings.
He is coming off a bit of a rough outing against the New York Mets in which he gave up five hits and four runs in five innings. Although, the more important thing is that Hill hasn’t had any blister issues since coming off the disabled list.
Hill has struggled greatly in four career starts against the Rockies, going 0-3 with a 7.52 ERA and 1.72 WHIP with 14 strikeouts and 13 walks in 20.1 innings.
Anderson has had an up-and-down season so far for the Rockies, going 4-3 with a 4.62 ERA, 4.69 FIP and 1.34 WHIP in 16 starts. He has struck out 77 hitters compared to 30 walks in 85.2 innings.
The 28-year-old has faced the Dodgers eight times in his career, going 2-3 while yielding a 4.85 ERA and 1.59 WHIP.
Justin Turner has seen the ball well off Anderson, going 10-for-18 (.556) with a home run. Despite usually finding success against lefties, Kiké Hernandez has not had much success off Anderson as he is just 4-for-18 (.222) with one home run.
The Dodgers enter play with 53 home runs during the month, which is tied for the most in franchise history. They set the record last June.
Meanwhile, Hill and the Dodgers pitching staff is tasked with slowing down Rockies All-Star third baseman Nolan Arenado. He is batting .321/.362/.811 with seven home runs and 19 RBI in his last 13 games. Arenado is 2-for-3 with a home run in his career against Hill.
