After going .500 on their first road trip of the season, the Los Angeles Dodgers now begin a nine-game homestand that starts with Yoshinobu Yamamoto getting a second look at the San Diego Padres.

Yamamoto made his MLB debut against the Padres in the Seoul Series, which was a disastrous start in which he allowed five runs and pitched just one inning. The loss is the only one Yamamoto has suffered thus far through three starts.

He takes the mound Friday night on a streak of 10 consecutive scoreless innings. In his last start, Yamamoto blanked the Chicago Cubs over five innings to earn the first win of his career.

The Padres counter with Michael King, who is new to the team after being acquired from the New York Yankees as part of the Juan Soto trade.

King is 2-0 with a 3.14 ERA and 1.47 WHIP in three games (two starts) this season. He allowed three runs on four hits over 3.1 innings out of the bullpen against the Dodgers in the finale of the Seoul Series.

Shohei Ohtani remains in the Dodgers lineup as former interpreter Ippei Mizuhara surrendered to authorities on Friday. Ohtani has played throughout Mizuhara’s illegal gambling saga and theft allegations, and enters on an eight-game hitting streak.

Since the start of the 2022 season, the Dodgers are 24-10 against the Padres and overall have won 13 head-to-head series in a row — which excludes a split in South Korea.
