For the first time this year, the Los Angeles Dodgers (14-4) will not be facing an opponent off a series victory, as they prepare to host the San Diego Padres (10-10) on Thursday in the first of four straight games. Los Angeles is a -175 betting favorite on the MLB odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com for the opener on Thursday night.
The Dodgers are coming off a two-game road split against the Seattle Mariners as big favorites on Monday and Tuesday, with the UNDER cashing twice at sports betting sites. Los Angeles bounced back from a 4-3 loss in the opener as -193 favorites versus the Mariners, beating them 1-0 as -179 chalk in the finale. However, Los Angeles has still dropped two of three overall, including a 5-2 defeat at San Diego in the last of three meetings on Sunday. The Dodgers closed as -128 road favorites in that one as well.
Padres vs. Dodgers | OddsShark Matchup Report
Los Angeles did win the first two meetings prior to that by a combined score of 13-6, and the UNDER is on a 4-0 run now in the team’s last four games overall. The Dodgers are hoping to extend the losing streak of the Padres, who have dropped three in a row and five of six, with the UNDER on a 5-0 run. San Diego was just swept by the Milwaukee Brewers, getting outscored 13-3 since upsetting Los Angeles, the team’s lone victory in its past six games.
This time around, the pitching matchups are equally difficult for the visitors, as they have to face Walker Buehler (1-0, 2.00 ERA), Clayton Kershaw (3-1, 2.19 ERA), Trevor Bauer (2-0, 2.42 ERA) and Dustin May (1-1, 2.93 ERA) at Chavez Ravine. The Dodgers actually opened as -182 favorites for the opener with Buehler on the mound, but bettors have taken the Padres in early wagering action so far.
San Diego are expected to counter with Ryan Weathers (1-0, 0.93 ERA) opposite Buehler, followed by Yu Darvish (1-1, 2.55 ERA), Blake Snell (0-0, 4.11 ERA) and Joe Musgrove (2-2, 1.04 ERA). Bauer and Snell are set to duel again on Saturday in the top matchup of the series, as both of them walked away with no-decisions in the last meeting, which was won by San Diego after Kershaw pitched six scoreless innings to earn his third win of the season in the previous game between the teams.
