Along with the Los Angeles Dodgers and all of MLB recognizing Jackie Robinson Day on April 15, the annual celebration is going to include yet another limited release by Nike.

The date represents the anniversary of Robinson breaking the MLB color barrier with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. That occured five days after then-Dodgers president Branch Rickey issued a statement to announce the signing of Robinson. Now, all uniformed personnel across baseball wear Robinson’s retired No. 42 every April 15.

The Nike Air Max 1 ’86 Jackie Robinson is going to be sold via the SNKRS app and at select retailers on Monday. The shoe takes inspiration from the Brooklyn Dodgers uniform with a perforated upper that features a combination of blue suede and nubuck panels.

The shoe also has a sail mudguard, gum sole and a special “42” diamond patch on the tongue along with a gold lacelock.

The upcoming release continues a trend of Nike paying their respect to the baseball icon.

In 2021, a Jackie Robinson Day version of the Nike Air Griffey Max 1 was made available for purchase and in 2022 he was honored with a commemorative colorway of the Dunk Low that released on the day of the All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium.

Last year, Nike released a limited Jackie Robinson Air Force 1 ’07.

Manager Dave Roberts began a tradition in 2021 of gathering the Dodgers around the Jackie Robinson statue to reflect on his impact and memory. Last year they were accompanied by the Chicago Cubs, and Jason Heyward addressed both teams.

“Amazing opportunity,” Heyward said after delivering a powerful message to the group. “I feel like timing is everything, for all of us in every walk of life. Super cool, 14-year Major Leaguer, to have a chance to address everyone that came out here wanting to show support, pay homage and acknowledge Jackie Robinson Day.”
