When the Los Angeles Dodgers completed their trade for Mookie Betts and David Price during the spring, president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman gushed not only about the talented players the team acquired but also who they both are as people.
Friedman was particularly complimentary of Betts when relaying messages he received from various personnel with the Boston Red Sox and throughout baseball in general.
“I told him in all the digging that we do on players that we’re looking to acquire, the feedback we got from teammates, clubhouse guys and different guys he’s come across in his career, he would blush if he heard all the nice things that were said about him,” Friedman said at the introductory press conference.
Betts went on to sign a 12-year contract extension with the Dodgers and quickly went on to live up to that reputation. He and the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation recently partnered with Jordan Brand to gift 50 pairs of the coveted Jordan 11 Jubilee.
Betts is among a select group of MLB players who are Jordan Brand athletes, and he couldn’t say enough about both the Air Jordan 11 Jubilee and forthcoming Jordan 11 Adapt. The latter of which marks the first time Nike’s Adapt technology is being incorporated on a Jordan shoe.
Betts, LADF twice collaborated
Back in August, Betts, the LADF and Pull Up Neighbor joined forces to organize a grab-and-go event in Compton. The giveaway provided free hand sanitizer, reusable face masks, food boxes and health screenings to the Compton community to help fight the spread of COVID-19.
One month later, they all came together to provide similar products and support to 700 registered youth from the southeast Los Angeles area.
