The sweepstakes to acquire Baltimore Orioles star Manny Machado are beginning to heat up, as teams like the Los Angeles Dodgers, Philadelphia Phillies, Milwaukee Brewers and New York Yankees have all been known to be interested in acquiring him.
The Orioles reportedly are going to wait until after Tuesday’s All-Star Game to trade him so he could represent them in the game as the starting shortstop in the American League.
That may very well be the last time he puts on an Orioles uniform though as there are also reports that the Orioles are close to completing a deal and could before the second half of the season starts.
Philadelphia may be the team that they are close to trading him to as according to Manny Randhawa of MLB.com, they are willing to include one of their top prospects that the Orioles covet:
The Phillies have indicated that they would include right-handed pitching prospect Adonis Medina in a package for Machado, one source told MLB.com. The Orioles are known to covet Medina in the Machado talks. Unless another suitor increases its offer, the Phillies are well-positioned to acquire Machado.
The Dodgers have been hesitant to include some of their top prospects like Alex Verdugo and Keibert Ruiz to acquire Machado considering he is set to hit free agency this winter and may be just a rental for the rest of this season.
As is always the case around the deadline though, teams release information to create leverage. So the Orioles may be releasing this information to get the Dodgers or another team to increase their offer.
With the Dodgers bigger need being to add pitching before the deadline, it seems unlikely that they would be willing to increase their offer for Machado.
