Mat Latos signed a one-year, $3 million contract with the Chicago White Sox, the club announced on Tuesday. Latos spent last season with the Miami Marlins, Los Angeles Dodgers and Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim.

He made 16 starts for Miami, then was included in the three-team, 13-player trade with the Atlanta Braves and Dodgers.

Latos had a strong debut with the Dodgers, allowing one run on four hits in six innings against the Angels.

However, it was all downhill for Latos from that point forward. He allowed four earned runs or more in less than five innings of work in three of his next four starts.

The right-hander was moved to the bullpen as off days in the schedule presented the Dodgers with the option to temporarily go to a four-man rotation. However, he never appeared as a relief pitcher and went 16 days between starts.

Latos was eventually designated for assignment on Sept. 17, and the Dodgers released him eight days later. In six games (five starts) with the Dodgers, Latos was 0-3 with a 6.66 ERA, 4.00 FIP and 1.52 WHIP.

After being released, he signed with the Angels and appeared in two games — posting a 4.91 ERA, 9.41 FIP and 1.37 WHIP.

Overall last season, Latos was 4-10 with a 4.95 ERA, 3.72 FIP and 1.31 WHIP. This season will mark the first of his career in the American League for the 28-year-old righty.
