As Bryce Harper and Manny Machado remain free agents, the market is slow moving for several other position players. Such holds true for Brian Dozier, who nonetheless has been the subject of plenty of reported interest.

The Los Angeles Dodgers reportedly are open to re-signing Dozier, while the Washington Nationals have also been linked him and D.J. LeMahieu as they seek a short-term option at second base. Dozier and LeMahieu are part of a talented group of free-agent second basemen.

Their futures figure to be connected in that clubs could pursue and shift their focus if or when one signs. The Colorado Rockies may find themselves in that position as they reportedly have interest in Dozier, per Thomas Harding of MLB.com:

The Rockies are considering pursuing free-agent second baseman Brian Dozier on a short-term deal, but have to balance the pursuit against payroll concerns, according to multiple Major League sources.

Coming off a season in which they reached Game 163 against the Dodgers to determine the National League West champion, the Rockies bolstered their roster with the signing of Daniel Murphy, who will play first base.

The two-year, $24 million deal is a factor in the Rockies seeking out a second baseman who could be signed to a team-friendly contract. Given how teams have been mindful of contracts doled out last free agency and again this time around, that doesn’t figure to a major impediment to finding a quality option.
