Marcell Ozuna Rumors: Dodgers Among Teams With Interest

The biggest move the Los Angeles Dodgers have made in free agency thus far was re-signing Blake Treinen to a two-year contract with a team option for 2023. Tommy Kahnle can somewhat be considered noteworthy as well, but there are doubts he will manage to pitch this season.

Meanwhile, the group of Dodgers free agents still includes Pedro Baez, Kiké Hernandez, Joc Pederson and Justin Turner, among others. L.A. is believed to have interest in re-signing Turner, even as they continue to be linked to DJ LeMahieu.

How it ultimately unfolds remains to be seen, but Dodgers president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman made it clear adding a right-handed hitting position player to the lineup was one area of focus.

While that search has primarily centered around LeMahieu and Turner, the Dodgers reportedly are among the teams with some level of interest in Marcell Ozuna, according to MLB reporter Mike Rodriguez:

In the report, the Atlanta Braves, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, San Francisco Giants, Toronto Blue Jays and Washington Nationals are mentioned as teams with the most interest in Ozuna. It also states he could be seeking a contract of four to six years.

It’s unclear where the Nationals may now stand since their signing of Kyle Schwarber. He was among the outfielders Washington was said to be targeting — in addition to Pederson — on the free-agent market.

How would Ozuna fit on Dodgers roster

Although Ozuna fits the profile as a right-handed bat the Dodgers are in search of, his fit on their roster would be a bit cumbersome if the universal designated hitter is not kept for the 2021 season.

Particularly with the Dodgers already having AJ Pollock at minimum slated to be part of a platoon in left field. Of course, L.A. theoretically could free up playing time — and shed payroll — by trading Pollock.
