The Los Angeles Dodgers began their homestand by losing two of three to the Chicago Cubs, and now look to rebound against a resurgent New York Mets team.

The Dodgers enter the series opener at 8-8 and are yet to fall below .500 this season. Meanwhile, the Mets are on a four-game winning streak that has them 10-6 but still trailing the Atlanta Braves (12-4) in the National League East standings.

Just signed to a Major League contract, Austin Wynns starts at catcher for his Dodgers debut. The 32-year-old was added to the organization as a corresponding move to Will Smith going on the seven-day concussion injured list.

Wynns made his MLB debut with the Baltimore Orioles in 2018, and he appeared in games with them during the 2019 and 2021 seasons as well. Wynns appeared in 66 games for the San Francisco Giants last year and one this season prior to getting designated for assignment.

Wynns forms a battery with Dustin May, who is coming off somewhat of a rough start at Oracle Park. May did manage to hold the Giants to just two runs over 5.1 innings, but was disappointed with not having much command early in the outing.

The Mets counter with David Petersen in what’s his fourth start of the season. Petersen is 0-2 with a 4.91 ERA but has allowed two earned runs or fewer in two starts this season.

Petersen is the third left-handed starter the Dodgers are facing on the homestand, and they are looking for their first win in such games.

Mets rookie Brett Baty is up for his second run at the Major League level. He hit .400/.500/.886 with five home runs and 15 RBI in nine games for Triple-A Syracuse.
