Friday will be a day of celebration for the Los Angeles Dodgers as they are holding a World Series ring ceremony prior to facing the Washington Nationals in the opener of a three-game series.

The weekend at Dodger Stadium is filled with multiple events as a Tommy Lasorda tribute is scheduled for Saturday, and the 40th anniversary of Fernando Valenzuela winning Rookie of the Year, Cy Young, Silver Slugger and helping the Dodgers a World Series title will be celebrated Sunday.

Max Muncy is choosing to honor the Hall of Fame manager during the World Series ring ceremony and Dodgers home opener by wearing a custom pair of cleats, details and images of which were provided to DodgerBlue.com by creators Stadium Custom Kicks.

Muncy’s cleats feature a portrait of Lasorda, his famed, “I bleed Dodger blue and when I die, I’m going to the big Dodger in the sky” quote, No. 2 jersey, L.A. skyline, “1927-2021” inside the iconic Dodger Stadium scoreboard, and 1981 and 1988 on the toes to commemorate World Series won under the fiery manager.

Muncy was among the several current and former Dodgers to recall a memorable encounter shared with Lasorda after his passing in January. Justin and Kourtney Turner attended Lasorda’s Celebration of Life Ceremony at Dodger Stadium.

The Dodgers set a locker for Lasorda at Camelback Ranch this spring, though manager Dave Roberts acknowledged that could not come close to making up for not having his presence around during an annual visit.

Hershiser explains absence from Lasorda’s ceremony

Orel Hershiser noticeably was not present when the Dodgers shared footage from the Lasorda ceremony at Chavez Ravine, and the broadcaster later revealed that was due to a positive coronavirus (COVID-19) test.

Hershiser became emotional as he discussed the situation during a SportsNet LA telecast and shared fond memories he had with Lasorda.
