The Los Angeles Dodgers traded veteran outfielder Kole Calhoun to the Cleveland Guardians in exchange for cash considerations.
The amount of money the Dodgers received was not announced, but president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman recently gave a ballpark figure on such deals. “Anywhere from $1 to $100,000. That is the range for those transactions,” he said earlier this month.
Calhoun signed a Minor League contract with the Dodgers this past June after opting out of his deal with the New York Yankees.
He appeared in 35 games for Triple-A Oklahoma City, hitting .308/.366/.531 with 11 doubles, three triples, five home runs and 28 RBI over 161 plate appearances.
In parts of 12 big league seasons with the Los Angeles Angels, Arizona Diamondbacks, Rangers and Guardians, Calhoun has hit .243/.316/.418 with 173 home runs, 558 RBI and 620 runs scored across 1,199 games. He is 2-for-11 in three games since joining the Guardians.
The Dodgers have now completed two deals since the MLB trade deadline passed on August 1. Their first was trading prospects Aldrín Batista and Máximo Martínez to the Chicago White Sox in exchange for international slot money.
Teams are only permitted to trade Minor League players who have not been on a Major League roster, and are not currently on a 40-man roster or the 60-day injured list, for the remainder of the 2023 season.

The Dodgers added five players to their Major League roster in the final week leading up to the trade deadline, but did not land the impact starting pitcher they reportedly were looking for.
That wasn’t for a lack of trying as Justin Verlander preferred to be sent to the Houston Astros, and Eduardo Rodriguez invoked his limited no-trade clause to block a deal to the Dodgers.
“I think we feel pretty good,” Freddie Freeman said of the Dodgers’ trade-deadline moves. “We added five guys over the last week, and a lot of them have contributed. We feel good, we love our team.
“We had a first-place team going into the deadline, and we’ve got a first-place team coming out of the deadline. We like what we’ve got in this clubhouse.”
