The Los Angeles Dodgers eventually got to Baltimore Orioles starter Cade Povich to take the rubber match of their series at Dodger Stadium with a 6-3 win. With the win the Dodgers went 7-2 on their homestand that was against all American League opponents.
Kiké Hernández’s hot hitting helped set the table for the Dodgers in the second inning in the form of a leadoff double. That gave Hernández at least one extra-base hit in five consecutive starts against a left-handed pitcher.
Chris Taylor followed with one of his two soft-hit singles in the game to give the Dodgers a 1-0 lead.
Taylor’s second base hit led off the fourth inning and Gavin Lux then sliced a ground-rule double down the line. Back off the 10-day injured list, Austin Barnes hit a high chopper that cleared the drawn-in infield for a two-run double.
Mookie Betts added an RBI single and Miguel Rojas’ base hit brought in another run but the Dodgers ran themselves out of the inning on their second blunder of the frame.
Bobby Miller built on an encouraging start his last time out with five innings. He was one out away from completing a scoreless start when Colton Cowser hit a three-run homer.
That was one of just two hits Miller allowed, but he also faced plenty of traffic throughout the night due to walking three batters. He finished with three strikeouts and had good command of the curveball and changeup, but Miller’s fastball remained in consistent.
Daniel Hudson was given a lengthy period to reset but his first appearance since Aug. 20 still did not yield much improvement. Hudson retired the first two batters faced before being removed with the bases loaded.
Blake Treinen rescued Hudson and the Dodgers by striking out Gunnar Henderson. Treinen also worked a scoreless eighth inning and Evan Phillips entered in the ninth to convert the save opportunity.
Dodgers standings update
The Dodgers now have a four game lead over the Arizona Diamondbacks in the National League West standings. The teams begin a four-game series at Chase Field on Friday.
Like the Diamondbacks, the San Diego Padres also lost on Thursday, and now are five games back of the Dodgers.
