Recap: Trayce Thompson Sparks Dodgers' Comeback Win Against Rockies

The Los Angeles Dodgers were without a baserunner through four innings but eventually got to Kyle Freeland for a 5-3 comeback win over the Colorado Rockies.

Justin Turner’s one-out single in the fifth inning lit the spark for fireworks. Chris Taylor followed with a walk and Trayce Thompson then lined a go-ahead, three-run home run to left field.

The Dodgers added to their lead when Cody Bellinger hit a ground-rule and later scored on Mookie Betts’ RBI single. Trea Turner then extended it again with an RBI double double in the seventh inning.

The four-run inning not only turned the night around for the Dodgers, but Julio Urías as well. He effectively pitched through traffic but surrendered a leadoff home run to José Iglesias to lead off the fifth inning.

That was all Urías allowed over his six innings of work. He threw 99 pitches, scattered five hits and collected seven strikeouts against one walk.

Phil Bickford was first to appear out of the Dodgers’ bullpen, and he was followed by Brusdar Graterol, Reyes Moronta and Yency Almonte. Bickford and Graterol both turned in a perfect inning, but Moronta failed to finish the game out.

He gave up a home run to C.J. Cron, marking a third consecutive appearance Moronta surrendered a long ball. Hanser Alberto failed to make a play to his left, resulting in a two-out single, and Moronta then walked Elias Díaz to bring the tying run to the plate.

That resulted in Dodgers manager Dave Roberts turning to Yency Almonte, who gave up an RBI single to pinch-hitter Charlie Blackmon before securing the win. The save was Almonte’s second of his career. Craig Kimbrel is expected to be unavailable for at least one more game after being hit in the back by a comebacker.

Chris Taylor was removed in the sixth inning due to left ankle swelling. He’d previously missed the series finale against the San Diego Padres because of a left foot contusion.
