Justin Turner and the Los Angeles Dodgers were among those represented at the 2022 L.A. Sports Awards earlier this year, during an event to benefit the L.A. Sports Council’s “Ready, Set Gold!” community program.
“We are proud to celebrate and recognize the incredible achievements of LA’s top athletes, teams, coaches, and executives at this year’s LA Sports Awards,” L.A. Sports Council president David Siegel said in a statement.
“As we look back on 2022, we are reminded of the power of sports to unite, inspire, and bring joy to our city—and that LA is the greatest sports city in the world. We look forward to another year of world-class sports in our city and hosting the show again next year.”
Turner was named the 2022 Community Athlete of the Year in recognition of the endless charitable work he and wife Kourtney carry out through their Justin Turner Foundation. Turner additionally was a regular participant in various initiatives carried out by the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation.
Although Turner signed a one-year contract with the Boston Red Sox during the offseason, the Justin Turner Foundation remains committed to providing for children and families in need throughout Los Angeles.
Turner’s final year with the team saw the Dodgers set a franchise record with 111 wins. It was nominated for the Top Sports Moment at the 2022 L.A. Sports Awards but it ultimately finished fourth in fan voting.
The Dodgers also finished fourth in the top L.A. Sports Moments for 2021 with their eliminating the San Francisco Giants in the National League Division Series.
