The Los Angeles Dodgers and San Diego Padres met for a second series at Petco Park this season, and third overall three-game set between the two clubs in 2016. The Dodgers swept the series in San Diego, outscoring the Padres 25-0 in the process.

Christian Friedrich battled command issues in the first inning, walking Justin Turner with one out and later giving up a two-out single to Howie Kendrick. Trayce Thompson then drew a four-pitch walk to load the bases, but nothing came of it as Yasiel Puig popped out.

Scott Kazmir retired the Padres in order in the bottom of the first, needing just eight pitches to do so. Kazmir opened the second inning with a strikeout of Melvin Upton Jr., then ran into some trouble.

Brett Wallace drew a walk and the Padres successfully challenged a called ball, which revealed Alexei Ramirez was hit by a pitch. After both runners advanced on a passed ball, Kazmir struck out Jose Pirela swinging.

Adam Rosales was intentionally walked and the decision backfired as Friedrich helped his cause with a two-run single to center. The runs scored were the Padres’ first against the Dodgers in 28 innings at Petco Park this season.

Jon Jay worked a walk to load the bases a second time in the inning, though Kazmir managed to escape the jam with a strikeout of Derek Norris.

Kiké Hernandez led off the third inning with a double to left-center field. He came to around to score on Corey Seager’s one-out double that carried over Pirela’s head in right field to cut the Padres’ lead to 2-1.

The double extended Seager’s hitting streak to 11 games, matching his career high. Kazmir picked up his fourth strikeout of the game and worked around a two-out walk to throw a scoreless third inning.
