Hyun-Jin Ryu had his scoreless streak snapped at 32 innings but he helped his cause with an RBI double in the Los Angeles Dodgers’ 7-2 win over the Pittsburgh Pirates. The victory guaranteed the Dodgers didn’t lose a series since April 29-May 1.

Joc Pederson added to his career success against Joe Musgrove by leading off the game with a ground-rule double. Corey Seager’s RBI single gave the Dodgers an early lead but the Pirates quickly cut into that.

Josh Bell’s leadoff double in the second inning was cashed in when Russell Martin fielded a tapper in front of the plate but had his throw to third base sail wide of the bag. Cole Tucker’s RBI single gave the Pirates a 2-1 lead before Ryu could get through the second inning.

Cody Bellinger’s single scored Max Muncy, who doubled with one out in the third inning. Ryu’s RBI double came in the fourth, and the Dodgers then had a three-run fifth inning behind doubles by Muncy, Seager and Bellinger, and Martin’s sacrifice fly.

Pederson’s extra-base hit drove in the Dodgers’ seventh and final run of the game and gave them eight doubles on the night. That fell one shy of tying the franchise record for most doubles in a single game, set by Brooklyn teams in 1894 and 1939. The Dodgers did tie the Los Angeles franchise mark, which was set in 1978.

As the Dodgers were adding to their lead, Ryu successfully managed to work around plenty of traffic. He allowed a season-high 10 hits over six innings in what was his shortest start since only going 5.2 innings against the Milwaukee Brewers on April 20.

Julio Urias made his first appearance since returning from administrative leave, backing Ryu’s effort with two scoreless innings. Scott Alexander then finished out the game with a 1-2-3 ninth.
