AJ Pollock and Matt Beaty each hit a grand slam and helped the Los Angeles Dodgers make franchise history in a 16-4 rout of the Milwaukee Brewers. The Dodgers snapped a three-game losing streak and avoided being swept by cruising to a win at American Family Field.
They needed some good fortune as Alec Bettinger missed the bag when going to cover first base on Beaty’s RBI infield single. Not only did it allow the Dodgers to score a run and keep the first inning alive, but Pollock made the miscue hurt even more as he followed with a grand slam.
That marked the second of Pollock’s career and first since doing so against the San Diego Padres on Sept. 25, 2015.
Singles by Corey Seager, Justin Turner and Chris Taylor in the second inning set the stage for Beaty to connect on his own two-out grand slam for a career first. It gave the Dodgers their first game with multiple grand slams since Adrian Beltre and Shawn Green each slugged one on May 21, 2000.
The offensive onslaught continued in the fourth inning when Beaty’s two-run single extended the Dodgers’ lead to 11-1. Pollock then added to his big day with a three-run homer in the sixth inning, and an RBI double in the eighth.
Pollock (eight) and Beaty (seven) combined for the first time in Dodgers history two players had at least seven RBI in a single game. Yasiel Puig (seven RBI) and Cody Bellinger (six) nearly accomplished the same feat on Sept. 15, 2018.
Beaty entered the day with four RBI on the season, and Pollock was at seven.
Pollock became the sixth player in Dodgers franchise history with at least eight RBI in a game, joining James Loney, Gil Hodges, Adrian Gonzalez, Yasmani Grandal and Ron Cey. Loney and Hodges hold the Dodgers record with nine RBI in one game.
Urias saves Dodgers
Coming off back-to-back bullpen games, the second of which was unexpected and due to Dustin May’s injury, the Dodgers’ bullpen was in a state of despair. Like Trevor Bauer did to set up the scheduled bullpen day, Julio Urias answered the bell for the pitching staff.
He allowed a solo home run and scattered four hits while collecting 10 strikeouts over seven key innings. That allowed manager Dave Roberts to only need newly called up Mike Kickham out of the bullpen to finish the needed victory.
