After dropping the first two games of the series, the Los Angeles Dodgers look to avoid being swept by the San Francisco Giants in a Father’s Day matchup at Dodger Stadium.
The Dodgers are coming off their worst home loss in L.A. franchise history and have gone just 13-17 over their last 30 games. Another defeat on Sunday would result in San Francisco leapfrogging them for second place in the National League West standings.
Tony Gonsolin looks to play stopper as he makes his 10th start of the season. The right-hander is pitching on normal rest after throwing six scoreless innings in his last outing against the Chicago White Sox.
“Just kind of giving us and him the latitude if it didn’t go well and he needed some extra time, we were kicking that around,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said of the decision to not give extra rest to Gonsolin. “But coming out of tonight, we feel good with him making that start on Sunday.”
Gonsolin is 4-1 with a 1.93 ERA, 4.25 FIP and 0.94 WHIP in 46.2 innings pitched this season. He owns a 1-2 record, 3.38 ERA, 1.58 WHIP and 9.5 strikeouts per nine in four career games against the Giants (three starts).
San Francisco counters with Logan Webb, who hopes to build on a solid start against the St. Louis Cardinals. He allowed three runs on seven hits and collected six strikeouts in seven innings pitched.
Webb enters with a 5-6 record, 3.15 ERA, 3.61 FIP, 1.08 WHIP and impressive 91-to-17 strikeout-to-walk ratio in 91.1 innings pitched across 14 starts this season.
Webb is 2-5 with a 4.13 ERA and 1.25 WHIP in 11 career starts against the Dodgers. He took a tough-luck loss on April 10, allowing four runs (one earned) and five hits with six strikeouts in six innings pitched.
David Peralta is back in the Dodgers lineup after missing one game because of a minor left hamstring strain/glute injury. Peralta made a quick recovery and was deemed available to pinch-hit Saturday if a key moment arose.
Peralta returns by playing his usual left field but hitting cleanup for only the second time this season, with both instances occurring on the current homestand.
