The Los Angeles Dodgers (58-36) sit one game behind the National League West-leading San Francisco Giants (58-34) heading into a key four-game series that starts on Monday night at Chavez Ravine.
The series opener opened as a pick’em on the MLB odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com (how the moneyline works), with San Francisco ace Kevin Gausman (9-3, 1.73 ERA) going to the mound opposite Los Angeles starter Tony Gonsolin (1-0, 2.13 ERA), who has stepped up nicely as a replacement in the rotation.
Giants vs. Dodgers | OddsShark Matchup Report
Gonsolin has yet to surrender more than one run in any of his seven outings so far this season, including six starts and one relief appearance. The Dodgers have gone 6-1 in those games, the latest being a 7-4 home victory against the Arizona Diamondbacks on July 11 in which he gave up a solo home run and three other hits in four innings with one walk and six strikeouts.
Meanwhile, Gausman has been one of the main reasons the Giants have led the division for most of 2021. The 30-year-old veteran is three years older than his counterpart but is enjoying the best year of his career, already tying for the second-most wins he has ever had in a single season.
He is coming off a win over the Washington Nationals on July 11 too, allowing one run and four hits in six innings with three walks and nine strikeouts. Gausman has split two starts against Los Angeles this year, giving up a combined three runs and five hits in 11 total innings.
Next up on Tuesday for San Francisco will be Alex Wood (8-3, 3.67 ERA) versus an undecided starter for the Dodgers, before Logan Webb (4-3, 3.54 ERA) faces Julio Urias (12-3, 3.78 ERA) on Wednesday and then Anthony DeSclafani (10-4, 2.78 ERA) meets Walker Buehler (10-1, 2.37 ERA) in the series finale on Thursday.
The Dodgers figure to have advantages with Urias and Buehler, so bettors should expect them to be at least solid home favorites there at online betting sites. They are also already up to -122 for Monday’s matchup.
The Giants have lost six of the nine meetings in the series this season, including the last two, and eight of 11 dating back to last year. The UNDER is on a 2-0 series run as well, after the OVER cashed in the previous three meetings.
