The Los Angeles Dodgers tied a franchise record with 106 wins last season, but had their streak of consecutive National League West titles snapped at eight by the San Francisco Giants, who won 107 games.
After surviving a win-or-go-home Wild Card Game against the St. Louis Cardinals, the Dodgers met their longtime rival in the NL Division Series. Fittingly, the teams’ first ever battle in the postseason came down to a winner-take-all Game 5 at Oracle Park, which saw L.A. earn a hard-fought victory.
Prior to the matchup, L.A. mayor Eric Garcetti placed a friendly bet with San Francisco mayor London Breed on the outcome of the series. With the Dodgers eliminating the Giants, Breed made good on her bet by gifting Garcetti a piece of suspension wire from the Golden Gate Bridge:
Last fall, Mayor @LondonBreed and I made a wager over @Dodgers vs. @SFGiants NLDS.
Today, the gift we won arrived: a piece of suspension wire from the iconic Golden Gate Bridge.

Garcetti and Breed weren’t the only politicians to make a bet on the Dodgers-Giants NLDS matchup. California Gov. Gavin Newsom and U.S. Senator Alex Padilla also wagered on the outcome of the series, with the loser agreeing to donate memorabilia to the winner’s charity of choice.
Padilla, an L.A. native, chose the L.A. Regional Food Bank as his charity, which the Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation and Jaime & Blanca Jarrín Foundation have donated to in the past.
Roberts doubled down on Dodgers
After the Dodgers finished second to the Giants this season, manager Dave Roberts lost a bet with former skipper Bruce Bochy in which he was due to pay for dinner and a bottle of wine.
Roberts raised the stakes with Bochy by doubling down on the Dodgers defeating the Giants in the NLDS, which turned out to be a great decision.
