The Los Angeles Dodgers winning the 2020 World Series is being celebrated by the National Baseball Hall of Fame through an “Autumn Glory” display that can be viewed by attendees with admission to the museum.
The exhibit will remain on display until conclusion of the 2021 postseason. The Hall of Fame additionally will recognize the Dodgers’ championship win with special programming that will be announced this spring.
Among the items part of the Cooperstown tribute are the first ball thrown by Clayton Kershaw against the Tampa Bay Rays in Game 1 of the World Series, a bat used by Corey Seager, Max Muncy helmet and Mookie Betts jersey.
The baseball used is of added significance considering it was the first neutral-site World Series game in MLB history.
Additional artifacts that are part of the Autumn Glory display are a bat used by Rays breakout rookie Randy Arozarena, Ji-Man Choi jersey and spikes Bret Phillips had on when he drove in the winning run in Game 4.
That of course prevented the Dodgers from taking a commanding 3-1 series lead and invariably placed a tremendous amount of pressure on Kershaw. The eventual Hall of Famer wasn’t as sharp as his Game 1 performance, but settled in to help the Dodgers win a pivotal Game 5.
Despite the stunning turn of events from the night prior, manager Dave Roberts and other players maintained they had quickly turned the page and were going to avoid a letdown.
“Obviously didn’t get the result that we wanted. Wild game, back and forth, up and down, but like we’ve said all along, we know it’s not going to be easy,” Justin Turner said after the walk-off loss in Game 4. “We know how difficult this is.”
Dodgers give Lasorda gift
The Dodgers ending their championship drought came with late manager Tommy Lasorda in attendance. The Hall of Famer had long spoke about his need to see the franchise capture another title in his lifetime, and Roberts was honored to have had an exchange with Lasorda upon providing that.
