The Los Angeles Dodgers (34-25) will end a six-game road trip against the Pittsburgh Pirates (23-35) with a three-game set as strong betting favorites yet again starting Tuesday after losing two of three to the Atlanta Braves over the weekend.
The Dodgers dropped the last two to the Braves by a combined score of 10-6, and they have not closed as underdogs on the MLB odds at sportsbooks monitored by OddsShark.com since April 30 in a 3-1 road loss to the Milwaukee Brewers (how sports betting works).
Dodgers vs. Pirates | OddsShark Matchup Report
The Los Angeles streak of closing as a favorite is not expected to end at Pittsburgh either, especially since the home team resides in the basement of the National League Central. However, the Pirates did tie a season-high winning streak of three games this past weekend before seeing it halted with a 3-1 loss to the Miami Marlins as +110 home dogs on Sunday. The OVER had cashed in five straight games prior to the UNDER in that low-scoring affair.
The Dodgers had a 3-0 OVER run as well before falling 4-2 to the Braves in Sunday’s series finale at Truist Park. If series trends are any indication, then bettors should expect some high-scoring matchups here as well. The OVER has cashed in the past four meetings between Los Angeles and Pittsburgh overall along with 10 of 11 plus five meetings in a row at PNC Park.
In addition, the Pirates have lost the past 10 meetings with the Dodgers, 12 of 13 and 17 of 19. That translates to a massive mismatch and justifies Los Angeles opening as a -183 favorite at online betting sites for the series opener on Tuesday even with the team’s recent struggles. That said, bettors should be prepared to pay a heavy price Wednesday and Thursday on the Dodgers too despite the fact that the team has gone just 15-15 on the road.
Los Angeles will send unbeaten Walker Buehler (4-0, 2.82 ERA) to the hill for the opener opposite JT Brubaker (4-4, 4.74 ERA) on Tuesday. The Dodgers are undecided about Wednesday’s starter before Julio Urias (8-2, 3.48 ERA) finishes things up Thursday against Mitch Keller (3-6, 6.65 ERA).
