Los Angeles Dodgers hero Kirk Gibson and his iconic fist pump celebration from the 1988 World Series will be part of MLB The Show 22 as he becomes the latest legend featured in the popular video game.
Gibson’s walk-off home run in Game 1 of the 1988 World Series along with his celebration while rounding the bases is one of the most famous moments in MLB history and recreating it will undoubtedly be one of the missions players can attempt to complete in the game.
San Diego Studio, the game’s developer, has put an emphasis over the last few years on bringing more legends into the game. Last year, Fernando Valenzuela made his debut in the baseball video game.
The primary way to use these players is through Diamond Dynasty, which is a card-collecting mode that players can use to build a team. The legends can also be found on the custom legend teams available in the “Play Now” mode, along with an option to allow legends in Franchise.
With both legs injured Kirk Gibson was called in to pinch-hit during game 1 of the 1988 World Series. That at-bat resulted in one of the most exciting walk-off home runs of all time. Relive his iconic fist pump in #MLBTheShow 22!

San Diego Studio previously announced Randy Johnson, Joe Mauer, Justin Morneau and Ryan Howard would be added to the game this year, and there should still be more to come.
The cover athlete for this season is L.A. Angels two-way star Shohei Ohtani and he is the first member of the Angels organization to be featured on the cover of a video game, the first Asian athlete to earn the honor, and the first pitcher to ever be on the cover of an MLB The Show game.
The game is available for preorder now and will release Tuesday, April 5.
MLB The Show 22 available on Nintendo Switch
For the first time ever, MLB The Show will be produced for Nintendo as the next installment of their game will be released for the Switch, just one year after the game was first produced for Xbox.
Baseball games on non-PlayStation platforms were previously limited to cartoonish, non-sim games like RBI Baseball and Super Mega Baseball, so this gives a true MLB game for people on the Switch.
MLB The Show 22 coming to Nintendo Switch also marks the second time the franchise will be on a portable platform as it was previously made for the Playstation Portable (PSP). The portability will be a major selling point for the game as Nintendo’s console won’t be able to compete visually with an Xbox or Playstation that is capable of running the game in 4K.
Last year, The Show also introduced cross-platform play with a cross-progression system that allows you to continue to earn progress no matter which console you are playing on. The feature will carry over into 2022 and will be available on the Switch as well.
