When the Los Angeles Football Club (LAFC) hosted D.C. United at Banc of California Stadium last week, they also welcomed Los Angeles Dodgers Spanish-language broadcaster Jaime Jarrín to the game.
Jarrín wore a custom LAFC jersey featuring No. 98, which represents the year when he was inducted into the MLB Hall of Fame. The jersey was previously gifted to him at Dodger Stadium, and the match against D.C. United marked the first time he wore it.
Jarrín previously visited LAFC in 2019 and shared his admiration for the organization while he met with Diego Palacios, one of the team’s defenders and a fellow Ecuadorian.
LAFC went on to defeat United thanks to a 67th-minute goal from striker Kwadwo Opoku in the 1-0 win. They lead the Western Conference with an 18-3-4 record (57 points). Jarrín had the honor of being that evening’s falconer.

The Honorary Falconer is one of LAFC’s prematch rituals that is intended to reflect the club’s style of play as fast, aggressive and relentless. Past Honorary Falconers include Will Ferrell, Meghan Trainor, Danny Trejo, Ty Burrell, Sophia Bush, Adrián González and Mia Hamm, among others.
The Dodgers and LAFC, which was founded in 2014, have created a growing connection over the recent years. In 2020, Walker Buehler represented the Dodgers in a partnership with LAFC to promote safe coronavirus protocols during the pandemic.
In addition, Fernando Valenzuela attended a special ceremony at Banc of California Stadium in 2019 to present the Landon Donovan MVP trophy to LAFC forward Carlos Vela, who became the first Mexican player to win the MLS MVP.
The Dodgers also have more ties to LAFC through Nomar Garciaparra, Peter Guber, Magic Johnson, Tucker Kain, Lon Rosen and Jason Sugarman being members of the ownership group.
Austin Barnes joined LADF for Dodgers Dreamteam day
The Los Angeles Dodgers Foundation (LADF) hosted their final Dodgers Dreamteam day of the season, with Billy Ashley, Austin Barnes, Al Ferrara and Dennis Powell in attendance at Heartwell Park in Long Beach.
Barnes signed autographs and assisted with distributing All-Star Game batting gloves by Franklin, and Dodgers Dreamteam players had access to a variety of services, including food resources, health screenings and other basic essentials for families in need.
