The Los Angeles Dodgers enter play Tuesday against the St. Louis Cardinals riding a season-high tying five-game winning streak. Los Angeles is also a season-best 12 games above .500, and are just a half-game back of the Colorado Rockies for first place in the National League West.

The Dodgers defeated the Cardinals on Monday a third time in their past four head-to-head matchups. On the heels of clubbing four home runs to complete a sweep of the Chicago Cubs, the Dodgers slugged three more homers at Busch Stadium.

The first of which was a solo shot off the bat of Chase Utley to break a scoreless tie in the third inning. The home run was Utley’s third in his past five games.

Then in the fourth inning, Cody Bellinger lined a home run into the right-field stands. Bellinger’s 11th home run this season leads the Dodgers. Logan Forsythe hit the last home run of the day, which was his first this season.

In addition to providing the now-expected fireworks at the plate, Bellinger flashed a strong and accurate arm in left field. A Jose Martinez grounder ate up Corey Seager and carried into shallow left field.

Paul DeJong, who’d just doubled, attempted to score on the play. He was thrown out by Bellinger with plenty of time to spare. Sergio Romo proceeded to get out of the inning without allowing a run.

The Dodgers bullpen combined to finish out Monday’s win with a 21.2 scoreless innings streak that dates back to last Wednesday.
