The Los Angeles Dodgers entered the offseason with starting pitching as their biggest need, but figure to pursue upgrades at other positions as well.
With Jason Heyward and David Peralta reaching the open market, the Dodgers are in search of a corner outfielder. L.A. has already been linked to Tesocar Hernández, and there is said to be mutual interest with Heyward on a reunion.
The Dodgers also may look to improve at shortstop, though it is certainly not a necessity. Gavin Lux is on track to return after undergoing surgery to repair a torn ACL and LCL in his right knee, and Mookie Betts, Miguel Rojas and Chris Taylor can additionally play the position.
According to Juan Toribio of MLB.com, the Dodgers may also pursue Willy Adames of the Milwaukee Brewers and the Toronto Blue Jays’ Bo Bichette if they look to address shortstop:
The Dodgers, however, will continue to monitor the trade market for a shortstop, mainly Milwaukee’s Willy Adames and Toronto’s Bo Bichette.
The Dodgers were previously connected to Adames during the 2022-2023 offseason when it was believed the Brewers would consider trading him.
The 28-year-old is coming off somewhat of a down year that saw hit just .217/.310/.407 with 29 doubles, two triples, 24 home runs and 80 RBI in 149 games. Adames is entering his final year of salary arbitration before potentially becoming a free agent after the 2024 season.
Along with Adames, the Dodgers are believed to have interest in Brewers ace Corbin Burnes, who also has one year of team control left.
Bichette enjoyed an All-Star season in which he batted .306/.339/.475 with 30 doubles, three triples, 20 home runs and 73 RBI over 135 games. Bichette has two years left on his contract before potentially becoming a free agent after the 2025 season.
Brandon Gomes: Dodgers prioritizing pitching
Dodgers general manager Brandon Gomes said that adding a starting pitcher or two is at the top of the team’s to-do list this offseason.
In addition to Burnes, the Dodgers have been linked to the likes of Shohei Ohtani, Yoshinobu Yamamoto, Eduardo Rodriguez and Roki Sasaki. Of course, Ohtani is not expected to pitch until 2025 and Sasaki is unlikely to get posted for MLB free agency this winter.
