The Los Angeles Dodgers hired SPORTFIVE to help secure partnerships for the team, with a focus on finding the field presenting sponsor at Dodger Stadium and jersey patch agreement.
SPORTFIVE will utilize their extensive market intelligence, reach and global sales network to identify and secure ideal partners for the Dodgers, whether domestically or internationally. The Dodger Stadium presenting partner will include branding and additional marketing opportunities.
“We are very happy to be working with SPORTFIVE on these unique partnership opportunities,” Dodgers senior vice president of global partnerships Corey Norkin said in a statement.
“For a company to have the opportunity to align their brand with us and our iconic venue, Dodger Stadium, along with one of the most recognizable uniforms in all of sports is truly special. We look forward to working with these future partners”
SPORTFIVE co-president of Americas Neil Glat added: “The Los Angeles Dodgers are one of the most storied franchises in Major League Baseball and we’re proud to partner with them. The team has been at the center of many marquee moments in the history of the game of baseball, and we’re excited to utilize our strong international network to find terrific partners that best match with the Dodgers incredible brand.”
SPORTFIVE previously worked with the Los Angeles Lakers to negotiate a jersey patch sponsorship, among an expansive portfolio of clients.
Will Dodger Stadium have a new name?
The Dodgers are not selling the naming the rights to Dodger Stadium, which is the third-oldest ballpark in baseball and recently underwent a significant renovation project.
What instead is available is an opportunity for branding on the most prominent position of the stadium and other signage.
Eventual jersey patch
Beginning with the 2023 regular season, each MLB team will be permitted to reach sponsorship deals for jersey patches. Deals must remain in place for at least one year at a time, and only a single design — no alternates.
The permitted size is 4-by-4 inches, with the patch approved to be placed on the left or right sleeve of the jersey. MLB and the Players Association (MLBPA) must both approve all jersey patches.
Fans will have the option to purchase jerseys with or without the sponsorship patches. Team stores will sell authentic jerseys with patches at stadium stores. Replica jerseys found at various retailers will not have the sponsorship representation.
On a related matter, MLB can begin putting decals on helmets as soon as the 2022 postseason. Such deals will be brokered by the league and be an official MLB sponsor, rather than each club being able to find their own agreements.
