Once the Los Angeles Dodgers were approved by the county to welcome fans back to Dodger Stadium this season, the team announced a wide range of new health and safety protocols for the 2021 regular season.
Among them was a new process for ordering from concession stands throughout the ballpark. Fans were asked to make purchases at Dodgers.com/food. A menu walked them through the process and an automated text message was sent once an order was ready to be picked up.
The purpose of mobile ordering was to reduce the likelihood of fans gathering on the concourses, but the system did not hold up well during the Dodgers’ home opener. As a result, the team has scrapped the plan and reverted back to ordering in person.
“The Dodgers became aware of several issues with mobile ordering at concession stands early in today’s game and quickly disabled the system and switched to traditional walk-up ordering,” the team said in a statement.
“After consultation and cooperation with the Los Angeles County Department of Public Health, Dodger Stadium will continue with walk-up ordering, as in past seasons, with social distancing and all health and safety guidelines enforced.
“Starting [Saturday] and moving forward, additional concession locations will be open to better serve Dodger fans. The health and safety of fans remains our top priority.”
All purchases at Chavez Ravie remain contactless and cashless. The Dodgers installed cash-to-card kiosks to assist with the transition to cashless transactions. Cash-to-card kiosks accept cash and add value to a Mastercard debit cash card.
Dodger Stadium health and safety protocols
Elsewhere on the safety front, all tickets are being issued digitally and scanned from mobile devices at Dodger Stadium entrances. Game tickets are delivered via the MLB Ballpark app, ensuring touchless entry.
Furthermore, all fans are seated in physically distanced pods of two, three, four, five or six seats. The Dodgers encourage social distancing at all times at Dodger Stadium, with capacity limited in elevators, restrooms and indoor areas.
Fans are additionally asked to refrain from congregating on the concourse, where signage and floor markers indicate six feet of separation.
Dodger Stadium bag policy
Only clear bags are being permitted with a maximum size of 12”x12”x6” (the size of a one-gallon freezer bag). Bags, backpacks, coolers, large purses, etc., are no longer allowed at Dodger Stadium. The exception being bags carried for medical reasons or manufactured diaper bags that accompany infants and young children.
