The start time for the Sunday, April 29 game at AT&T Park between the Los Angeles Dodgers and San Francisco Giants was pushed back from 1:05 p.m. to 2:05 p.m. PT. As a result of first pitch being changed, stadium gates will now open at 12:05 p.m.
Further explanation was not provided for the time change, though it can be surmised it’s related to the teams playing a split doubleheader the day prior. Those games are scheduled for 1:05 p.m. and 7:05 p.m. PT starts, respectively.
Playing a doubleheader became necessary when the April 6 opener of a three-game weekend series was postponed due to inclement weather. It was only the sixth rainout in AT&T Park history and first since April 12, 2006.
Last September, several rain delays prevented the Dodgers and Giants from taking the field until 10:50 p.m.
The jam-packed weekend series against the Giants at the end of the month is part of an 11-game road trip that includes matchups with the Arizona Diamondbacks (also four games) and San Diego Padres (three-game series).
Los Angeles has split their six head-to-head meetings with San Francisco this season, are 1-5 against Arizona, and 3-0 against San Diego, having just completed a series sweep at Petco Park.
