Max Muncy was among the players with a 2024 club option that had to be decided on, and he ultimately signed a two-year, $24 million contract extension that will keep him with the Los Angeles Dodgers through at least the 2025 season.
Muncy’s new deal included a $10 million club option for the 2026 season as well. He will earn a salary of $12 million next year, which is $2 million less than what Muncy would have received if his team option was exercised.
According to Bill Plunkett of the Southern California News Group, Muncy’s contract also has incentives based on his number of plate appearances:
Muncy agreed to a two-year, $24 million deal that will pay him $12 million in 2024 – $5 million as a signing bonus, $7 million in salary – and $12 million in salary in 2025. The deal also includes bonus clauses based on plate appearances and a club option that would pay Muncy an additional $10 million in 2026 if activated.
Muncy logged 579 plate appearances this year, which was the third-highest total of his career. The 33-year-old has exceeded 500 plate appearances in every full MLB season since 2019 and should easily do so again next year provided he stays healthy.
Muncy posted career highs in home runs (36) and RBI (105) this past season, but hit just .212. He made up for the low batting average by getting on base at a clip of .333.
Max Muncy inducted into Baylor Athletics Hall of Fame
Muncy was among eight players inducted into the 2023 Baylor Athletics Hall of Fame last week. The banquet was held at the Cashion Building Banquet Room on the Baylor campus.
Muncy started 59 games at first base during his freshman season at Baylor and hit .300 with a school freshman-record 11 home runs and 53 RBIs. He earned Freshman All-America honors and was named to the Fort Worth Regional all-tournament team.
Then as a sophomore, Muncy batted .322 with 17 doubles, three triples, seven home runs and 56 RBI in 66 games. He was a two-time All-Big 12 Conference selection at Baylor and led the Bears to the 2012 conference title.
