If there’s one accusation that can’t be applied to the Los Angeles Dodgers front office under president of baseball operations Andrew Friedman it’s lack of creativity.

Moreover, with Friedman leading the baseball division, the Dodgers have shown little-to-no hesitation in completing significant transactions — both signings and trades.

One year removed from trading Dee Gordon and Matt Kemp among others, the Dodgers have yet to make the same splash at the Winter Meetings.

They appeared to have done just that with a reported trade for Cincinnati Reds closer Aroldis Chapman, though the deal has seemingly been put on hold amid Chapman’s involvement in an alleged domestic violence incident at his home on Oct. 30.

A landmark move may come as a result of the Dodgers’ search for a starting pitcher. Among the starters they’ve been linked to is Miami Marlins ace Jose Fernandez. Miami reportedly asked Los Angeles for a package that included Corey Seager and Julio Urias.

The Dodgers are said to have discussed including Urias in a deal. They are also attempting to involve a third team in effort to complete a trade for Fernandez, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports:

Los Angeles went through a similar situation prior to the trade deadline last season. A deal with the Marlins for Mat Latos grew to involve the Atlanta Braves and a total of 13 players.

A mystery team, believed by some to be the Houston Astros, are also engaged in trade talks with the Marlins for Fernandez.
