The Los Angeles Dodgers activated David Price off the 15-day injured list and optioned Andre Jackson to Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Tuesday’s game against the San Diego Padres.

Price returns after missing the past three weeks because of left wrist inflammation. Though, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts noted at the time Price additionally had been battling various other injuries with his arm, elbow and wrist throughout the season.

“He hasn’t been really healthy all year,” Roberts said earlier this month. “But he’s been grinding and trying to pick everybody up.”

Despite those health issues, Price remained effective in his bullpen role. While appearing in 38 games and throwing 38.1 innings, he has pitched to a 2.58 ERA and 3.85 FIP with a 1.17 WHIP.

Price faced Miguel Vargas, Gavin Lux and Chris Taylor in a simulated game at Dodger Stadium late last week.

“David looked good. He was in full uni, which I loved,” Roberts said. “I thought the ball was coming out. It was good to see.

“I thought he was throwing some cutters, some sinkers, threw a couple four-seamers. Like Tony, I don’t think he was guarding. I think he was letting it go. So really positive for David.”

With the veteran left-hander returning at this point, he potentially could earn a spot on the Dodgers postseason roster despite the bullpen outlook being a crowded picture even with Blake Treinen facing injury concerns.

Jackson heads back to Oklahoma City for a second time in the past week. He was optioned Sept. 20 as the corresponding move to Tyler Anderson getting reinstated from the paternity list, but returned four days later when Dustin May was placed on the 15-day IL because of lower back tightness.

Is David Price retiring?

Back in July, Price said he would speak with his children about potentially retiring after the 2022 season. Despite a report this month that the 37-year-old would indeed retire after playing out the final season on his contract, Price said a decision had not been made.
