The Los Angeles Dodgers transferred Clayton Kershaw and Danny Duffy to the 60-day injured list as the corresponding moves to make room on the 40-man roster for Anthony Bemboom and Conner Greene, who were claimed off waivers from the L.A. Angels and Baltimore Orioles, respectively.

The Dodgers placed Kershaw on the 10-day IL on July 7 because of left forearm inflammation. Monday’s paper move amounts to Kershaw not being eligible to return until Sept. 5, which isn’t much change for his timetable.

After multiple days of playing catch led into a simulated game on July 27, Kershaw has effectively been shut down because of elbow soreness. As a result, Dodgers manager Dave Roberts revealed the left-hander would not return until sometime in September.

“All the scans are clean. It’s just right now there’s some soreness in the elbow,” Roberts said. “You look at where we’re at, trying to get it all to dissipate, and the buildup progression, what it would take. The simple match puts us at the beginning of September.”

Kershaw admitted he was too aggressive with the recovery process but similarly expressed confidence in returning this season.

“Basically, I just tried to come back too fast, which is a bummer,” he said. “After the sim game it really didn’t respond well. It’s frustrating, it’s still nothing serious, but it’s just something that’s going to take a little bit of time. It’s no fun. Being hurt is miserable. I really don’t enjoy it at all.

“Especially with what’s going on here, the guys we have coming in, this stretch run, I want to be a part of it so bad. I’m going to do everything I can to be back, and I think I will be. But definitely looking more like September than August. I know we’re still going to be in the middle of it, so I’m excited to be part of it then.”

Timetable for Duffy

When the Dodgers acquired Duffy from the Kansas City Royals at the trade deadline he had already been on the 10-day IL because of a second left flexor strain. Duffy’s stint was retroactive to July 17, which now makes Sept. 15 the earliest he can be activated.

Like with Kershaw, the Dodgers did not anticipate adding Duffy to their active roster until the final month of the regular season anyhow.

Duffy recently said he was encouraged by progress made with his recovery and was focused on getting back to full health even if it meant a longer process.
