The Los Angeles Dodgers reinstated AJ Pollock from the 10-day injured list and designated Shane Greene for assignment prior to Wednesday’s game against the Colorado Rockies.

A Grade 2 right hamstring strain forced Pollock to the IL on Sept. 5, and he initially was expected to return this weekend against the Arizona Diamondbacks. That was then changed to the series finale at Coors Field, but roster management required more flexibility.

“Just where we were at, IL’ing Cody, the status of C.T., just making sure we have enough position player coverage,” Dodgers manager Dave Roberts explained. “AJ was progressing really well, so tho have him available off the bench will be really helpful.”

Although Pollock will be limited to a potential pinch-hit appearance on Tuesday, he is expected to start the three-game finale against the Rockies. That will slide Gavin Lux over to center field, and the Dodgers will then re-evaluate their outfield picture come the weekend.

Pollock participated in simulated games at Dodger Stadium and Camelback Ranch over the past handful of days, which left the team convinced he could be activated Wednesday.

The 33-year-old previously missed three weeks this season because of a left hamstring strain he initially attempted to rest for a few days before resuming playing.

Touted by Roberts as a “linchpin” for the Dodgers this season, Pollock has hit .297/.352/.861 with 16 home runs and 58 RBI across 107 games.

On top of the Dodgers having Pollock fill a role off the bench in his first game back, Roberts added that the veteran outfielder was advised to be mindful when potentially running the bases so as not to overexert himself just yet.

Greene’s brief time with Dodgers

Greene signed with the Dodgers last month after getting designated for assignment by the Atlanta Braves and subsequently released upon clearing waivers.

The right-hander pitched to a 8.47 ERA, 6.77 FIP and 1.82 WHIP across 19 appearances for Atlanta this season. Some of his struggles carried over to the Dodgers, as Greene had a 4.05 ERA in nine games.
