The Los Angeles Dodgers’ starting rotation has absorbed multiple injuries throughout the 2024 season thus far, with Yoshinobu Yamamoto (right rotator cuff strain) and Walker Buehler (right hip inflammation) the most recent to be affected.

Both injuries came days ahead of Bobby Miller returning from the 15-day injured list, which was expected to give the Dodgers’ a six-man rotation for the time being. Instead, the Dodgers remain a starter short and despite multiple off days on the horizon, the team faced a decision.

Manager Dave Roberts suggested the Dodgers would recall a pitcher from Triple-A Oklahoma City or possibly rely on Ryan Yarbrough in a bulk role for a bullpen game in the Freeway Series opener on Friday night.

Following the Dodgers’ third win at Coors Field, Roberts revealed the Dodgers plan to recall Landon Knack for a spot start against the Los Angeles Angels, per Juan Toribio of MLB.com:

Knack is due to rejoin the Dodgers for a fourth time this season. He made a string of starts during April and one in May as well.

In those four outings the right-hander 1-1 with a 2.61 ERA and 0.97 WHIP while holding opponents to a .189 batting average.

While with the Oklahoma City Baseball Club this season, Knack has gone 3-2 with a 3.54 ERA and 1.20 WHIP across 10 games (nine starts). Knack last pitched for OKC on June 16, which leaves him on regular rest for the spot start with the Dodgers.

Knack threw 64 pitches and allowed one run over 2.2 innings in the outing at the beginning of the week.

Dodgers starters for Freeway Series

With Knack taking the ball on Friday night, that pushes Tyler Glasnow back to pitch in the Freeway Series finale at Dodger Stadium.

The Dodgers then have an off day Sunday before beginning a six-game road trip with matchups against the Chicago White Sox and San Francisco Giants.
