The Los Angeles Dodgers placed Hyun-Jin Ryu on the 10-day injured list with a left groin strain and recalled JT Chargois from Triple-A Oklahoma City prior to Tuesday’s game with the St. Louis Cardinals. Dodgers manager Dave Roberts indicated a roster move was forthcoming after Ryu suffered his injury.

It forced him to exit his start at Busch Stadium after recording just five outs. Ryu didn’t show any signs of trouble until throwing his final pitch and signaling to the dugout, though did labor and fall behind in multiple counts.

Ryu torn the same left groin muscle last season, which caused him to miss three months. However, he’s optimistic this year’s injury is nowhere near as severe. So much so that Ryu initially voiced a belief he would manage to avoid the IL and make his next start.

Instead, Ryu joins Clayton Kershaw and Rich Hill on the injured list, further stressing the Dodgers’ pitching depth. Though, Kershaw is making a rehab start Tuesday for Double-A Tulsa and may next join the Dodgers’ rotation on Sunday or Monday.

Chargois joins the team for the first time this season. He allowed one run, issued a walk and struck out two over 1.2 innings of his only appearance for Oklahoma City.

Chargois made the Opening Day roster last season and appeared in 39 games, going 2-4 with a 3.34 ERA, 3.87 FIP and 1.27 WHIP.
