Los Angeles Dodgers prospect Kenneth Betancourt was named the California League Player of the Week with the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes for the week of June 13-19.
Over that stretch, Betancourt went 11-for-15 (.733 batting average) with three doubles, one triple, nine runs scored and seven RBI. He also added six walks to only three strikeouts.
In June overall, the 22-year-old is batting .370/.477/.556 with five doubles, one triple, one home run, 11 RBI and 16 runs scored. This season, Betancourt is hitting .279/.360/.442 in 154 at-bats with four home runs, 30 RBI, 33 runs scored and five stolen bases.
The infielder signed a Minor League contract with the Dodgers in 2016 as a 16-year-old out of Venezuela. He has since bounced around within different levels of the Dodgers Minor League system.
Betancourt spent 2017 through 2019 at the Rookie Ball level with the Arizona Fall League Dodgers, Dominican Summer League Dodgers and Ogden Raptors before missing the 2020 season, as did every Minor Leaguer, due to the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic.
In 2021, he opened the season with the Quakes, but also made appearances with the High-A Great Lakes Loons, Double-A Tulsa Drillers and Triple-A Oklahoma City Dodgers. Betancourt again began the 2022 season with the Quakes.
Across his 795 Minor League at-bats, Betancourt is hitting .252/.311/.347 with five home runs, 101 RBI, 125 runs scored and 41 stolen bases. He is not on the Dodgers’ top 30 prospect list, according to MLB Pipleline, FanGraphs or Baseball America.
Mookie Betts, Trea Turner among NL All-Star voting leaders
The Dodgers are represented on the first 2022 MLB All-Star Game voting update by Mookie Betts and Trea Turner being the leaders at their respective positions among National League players.
Betts is pacing all NL outfielders and players with 1,446,050 votes thus far. He’s on pace to earn a sixth career All-Star Game selection, each of which would be consecutive (excluding when the event was not held in 2020).
Though, the All-Star Game at Dodger Stadium would potentially be the first Betts has appeared in as a member of the Dodgers. He opted out of the Midsummer Classic at Coors Field last season in favor of rest and recovery from nagging injuries.
Turner has garnered 811,839 votes and is on track for a second career All-Star Game, with his first selection coming last year. Like with Betts, this would mark Turner’s first Midsummer Classic appearance as a member of the Dodgers.
